Modern duplex house design

Project Location: Dominica, Caribbean
Descriptions:
As architects, we were tasked with designing a modern duplex house for our clients Pamela and Clarke in Dominica, a Caribbean island with a hot, humid, and rainy climate, and the possibility of hurricanes between June and November each year. Our clients expressed their fondness for a hexagonal house plan and roof, as well as a British colonial style with tall or French windows and shutters on the outside. They also requested guest rooms upstairs, family rooms downstairs, and a large meeting hall with attached male and female toilets.
Our architectural design for the modern duplex house was focused on functionality, durability, and aesthetic appeal. The house is two stories tall, with a total floor area of 5,000 square feet. The guest rooms are located upstairs, while the family rooms are on the ground floor, which also includes the large meeting hall. We made sure to include an internal staircase from the downstairs living room to go upstairs, providing easy access for our clients and their guests.
To ensure the safety and longevity of the house, we incorporated hurricane-resistant features, such as short eaves to prevent wind lift-off. The hexagonal house plan and roof also add a unique touch to the house’s design and help with rainwater runoff. In addition, we made sure to include deep verandas and balconies for our clients to enjoy the beautiful views of Dominica while staying protected from the elements.
One of the most notable features of the house is the stunning British colonial style with tall or French windows and shutters on the outside. The classic style is given a modern twist with the hexagonal house plan and roof, making it a unique and eye-catching design. The upstairs bedrooms are designed as suites
